Also, I couldn't run into what heroine saw in the hero. He was then boring. It might too have been more meaningful if we'd been shown memories/ scenes from them growing upwards together to make u.s. empathise why they meant so much to each other, instead of just beingness told it was and then.
...moreI have to say I loved Briar Rose and Isaia' s boring burn relationship ♡ Isaia was a noble and handsome, but too an honorable idiot. Still love him though
I take to say I loved Briar Rose and Isaia' s dull fire relationship ♡ ...more
Isaia... well, he rubs me the wrong way. I mean, come on! He s I enjoyed Sleeping Beauty, for the most function. I loved Lady Delanna, especially. Donaigh and Firra were funny and likeable and I loved the relationship the two had with each other and Briar. I liked Briar, she was a very downwardly-to-earth, sensible girl. I just didn't connect with her similar I did some of KM Shea'south other heroines, like Rakel, for case. At that place was cypher incorrect with Briar and I didn't DISLIKE her, she was simply sort of meh.
Isaia... well, he rubs me the wrong way. I mean, come on! He selfishly let Briar, and everyone else in Ciane sleep for an Unabridged year because he couldn't bare to osculation her and have to let her get. I can understand that a year was needed so the Timeless Fairy Tales timeline fabricated sense. It but felt a little forced. And Isaia came off as self-centered and a niggling childish. To me, it didn't seem that he deserved to become a legendary knight. He and Briar didn't accept any time to develop their relationship. They admitted their feelings and blast! They got married. Information technology didn't experience correct.
Briar'south parents and granddaddy were all right. I could empathize where they were coming from and why they did what they did. Though I wish they had given Briar a chance to prove herself. They seemed to automatically write her off.
The plot was fine. I loved having Odette, Misha, and Nadia come up in at the end. Odette, with the little time she had, was amazing as always. Angelique was perfect and we got to run across some more of her oh-so mysterious backstory.
Ane affair I did love about Briar was her having to figure out how to reconcile her two halves. The learned princess and the farmer girl. The Misfit ;) theme was pretty prominent and I loved seeing her struggled with trying to delight her family and staying truthful to herself.
Honestly, Delanna was the saving grace of this volume. I loved that she eventually got to become a legendary knight and all that.
I guess my biggest problem with this volume was Isaia. Overall though, information technology was enjoyable. Information technology might non be my favorite of the Timeless Fairy Tales, but information technology deserves a place in the ranks. ...more
I was definitely more familiar with this faerie tale before reading. Sleeping Beauty was one of my favorite Disney movies. I even call back having read the Grimm'south version of the tale, so there were few surprises left this fourth dimension. That was not a bad affair though.

Sleeping Beauty reads like a dream. Information technology is whimsical and elegant. For those who love a soothing, beautiful faerie tale, this one is for y'all!I was definitely more familiar with this faerie tale before reading. Sleeping Beauty was one of my favorite Disney movies. I even recall having read the Grimm's version of the tale, so there were few surprises left this time. That was not a bad thing though.
I loved Shea'south version, as information technology was lyrical and enchanting. Information technology had a bit of a ho-hum showtime, but built in intensity and concluded on a "happily ever after" notation. It not only offered the moral of a tiresome building dear, but as well spoke volumes on the importance of friendship, kindness, and strong, educated, independent women.
In comparison to the terminal few books in the series, this 1 was a little softer. Information technology took some time to build in to the story, and felt a little like dream walking. I honestly enjoyed this aspect, because information technology matched the "feel" of the original tale of Sleeping Beauty. How else would you have captured the essence of a story that involved the entire palace sleeping for 100 years?
Shea's version of Sleeping Beauty held her gorgeous writing fashion and vivacious world edifice. Even though the story was old and familiar, it felt new and vibrant. And, of form her characters were dynamic and lovable!
Princess Rosalinda, or Briar Rose, was some other amazing Shea character. She was bold, intelligent, and clever. She was kind, caring, and obstinately true to her cocky. For someone who didn't find out she was royalty until she was 17, she was certainly a noble grapheme.
I just loved lady Delanna. I know I've said this with each book in this series, just Yard.M. Shea has a talent for writing amazing friendships. Delanna was an amazing friend to Rose, equally she was loyal, caring, and brave. She besides had quite a hidden talent, that put a few of the knights to shame.
And, speaking of the knights. Isaia was a magnificently noble knight, and homo. He was a friend, starting time and foremost, which spoke volumes on his character, but he was also fiercely loyal, loving, and strong.
After having read 7 books in this series, one would remember I would have grown tired of the faerie tale retellings, but I have loved each and every one! This ane was quite predictable, just still highly enjoyable and beautiful. It held friendship, beauty, humor, and a fight between good and evil. It offered an amazing "happily ever after" ending, and a surprise twist that left me smiling and wanting more! four.5 stars.
Thank you to the writer for sending me this gratis east-re-create in commutation for my honest review, and as part of my Faerie Tale Friday posts.

Awww, that was and so bang-up! I kind of desire to just hug this book, but it's on my Kindle, and that somehow just doesn't seem like it would have the same effect as if the book were paperback. xDI was a trivial hesitant to buy this book already because I wasn't the biggest fan of the previous work (Swan Lake), but Thou.M. Shea'southward quality has been pretty high overall, so I decided to risk it. She did not disappoint. Sleeping Beauty is so sweet!
I could make little stylistic quibbles here and there about the story, only my only real complaint is picking on poor Isaia, and it is actually more than my problem than a problem with the volume. I didn't realize until Briar Rose did (practically the very cease) that (view spoiler)[he has such low cocky-esteem. (hide spoiler)] (Hiding it simply because I didn't see until the finish. More sensitive readers will probably selection upwardly on it the first time they run across the world from his PoV.)
But other than that, I have but skilful things to say. I loved all the many references to the other books in the serial, although I'1000 pretty sure you won't exist lost if yous haven't read the other books. And this volume also references what I'm hoping volition be another mini prequel series like The Snow Queen series: the Queen of Hearts! ^__^ And Angelique plays a larger office in this book than in whatsoever other except maybe Wild Swans.
I also loved the family unit dynamics in this book. We go both parents still alive plus a grandad! And while the mother or a character like her will likely never star in a Shea volume, I actually really adored her. (Maybe because she reminds me of an original character of my own earlier I turn evil incarnate on that character, every bit authors tend to have to practise or end up with a tedious story. xD) As well, I'k a big fan of the king/grandfather. He makes actually, really terrible judgment calls throughout much of the story, but you lot tin can still see, when all'south said and done, that he's a really good king (when he'due south not besides worried about his granddaughter'due south futurity or potential lack thereof).
In other rambling, not-very-well-planned-out-by-me news, Briar is a great heroine. She's not perfect, either, and I don't agree with everything she does, but I tin run into her logic behind her every motility and cheer her on anyways. She doesn't endeavour to deny the obvious / sell herself short (cough, Odette, cough), simply neither does she call up she tin can handle everything herself. She doesn't slip into her new life every bit princess with ease, simply neither does she scream at everyone that she hates them and can never trust them again for keeping the secret from her for 15+ years. And she has the very good sense to get offended alongside me on Isaia's behalf when people telephone call him her dog.
Oh, and I should probably mention the Magic Knights. They're probably the biggest factor responsible for making me really experience that this earth is existent. I hateful, I know it's not, but you know what I mean. They make up a big portion of the world-building in this volume and have more than whatever other tactic Shea has used helped me to see how each country plays just one role in an increasingly interconnected continent with a long history. (Speaking of history, I was surprised to notice a supporting character from the Snow Queen mentioned past proper noun. Other characters in other moments take made a point of mentioning how history has a way of distorting or hiding facts over time, but this ane fact was just as clear and accurate every bit anything about the beloved Snowfall Queen herself.)
Shea has mentioned that this book is i of her longer ones in the series, and I'k grateful for that. I didn't get the impression that anything was rushed, although I practice wish Briar and Isaia's human relationship prior to her becoming Princess Rosalinda had been fleshed out a little more than. We practise get a couple scenes of them so, though, so I'm not going to complain too much. There are still a few unanswered questions (like how will everyone react when they observe out nearly Delanna (view spoiler)[ and her matching legendary crossbow (hide spoiler)]?) that I'one thousand hoping will exist answered with short stories. And, of course, in that location are nevertheless questions about the overarching story of the series that probably volition not exist answered until Angelique's book. But overall, this volume is a very well-done, self-contained story that I'1000 glad I bought.

I have given a handful of books in this series 5 stars considering they are truly among my favorites. This one was nifty but not one of my favorites.
That sort of sounds negative, simply it isn't. I still actually enjoyed the book. I specially loved getting to know more about Angelique and even getting some from her perspective!! Likewise getting some interaction with Lord Enchanter Evariste was fantastic. I really promise to detect out soon what Angelique'southward core magic is. We were teased with it in this book. Hopefully we wont have to await likewise long to find out! After reading this book I realized I would dear a whole volume devoted to Angelique and Evariste. I don't know if that is in the plans but she should definitely get her happy ending and it would exist fun to get information technology, not but in fiddling tidbits throughout the other stories simply to actually just get the full of information technology. Only we shall meet :)

I just can't go enough of this series! In the latest 1, featuring Briar Rose or Princess Rosalinda, nosotros go a strong, clever, dauntless heroine who information technology's like shooting fish in a barrel to root for.It starts pretty much like the traditional story. The royal family has a new baby girl but an unexpected invitee decides to throw a death curse into the mix to liven up the party. But Shea likes to weave all these fairy tales together into the story of a land that has been cursed then that everything that can become wrong, does go wrong. This one was bully because non just did nosotros get a wonderful main graphic symbol, only we got to learn more virtually Angelique, the "enchantress in training" who's been on hand to salve the day numerous times.

The Hero is a CypherThis volume started out well. The heroine was smart and likeable. The hero seemed really noble. Just it turned out the "hero" was really cowardly, stupid and selfish.
The heroine isn't worried about her sleeping curse considering she knows who her true dear is and tells him to hurry and wake her even before she falls asleep. He doesn't.
He stands there while she sleeps refusing to kiss her. He stands by while every noble male age ten and up in the kingdom slobbers on her and paws at her trying to pause the curse. He says he wants to protect her non trap her. Instead of her first kiss coming from the man she loves he lets strangers and fifty-fifty men who insulted and threatened her maul her in her sleep.
He stands there as the authorities and royals fight and the state falls apart considering he refuses to buss her. He watches as the Enchantress drains herself dry of magic putting the boondocks to sleep and building a wall of thorns effectually it all considering he won't osculation her. He wants her to take choices. What choice can she accept in a coma? If everyone is comatose who is supposed to kiss her except the "hero" who refuses?
Then our dotterel coward cuts a tunnel through the thorns which he cuts regularly to proceed a pathway clear for visiting princes to effort kissing her. Also of course to make an easy mode for the evil mage to go far with only one homo to guard 24 hours a day.
He watches while princes waste their time traveling from other countries to endeavor to wake her. He watches while the entire boondocks lose over a year of their lives for no reason other than he is too stupid, selfish and cowardly to stop all the trouble, waste and insanity past kissing her. He could even just kiss her paw.
He thinks he isn't worthy or fit to be her royal espoused. He's correct.
I accept positively loved most of the characters and books of this serial. This one fell very brusk because of the cowardly, selfish weirdly named Isaia. Sadly too much of this volume is his angsty, emo ramblings.

There's just something about a KM Shea book. Spunky characters, action, adventure, funny banter...I merely tin can't get enough of it. They are rarely super deep or anything but sweet and funny, but I wouldn't alter that nearly them considering that is exactly why I love them.
This book is no exception. Actually, it is ane of my favorites. Briar is a keen heroine and Isaia is such a sugariness and loyal hero with one major flaw that causes a major plot point.
Sleeping Beauty is a hard tale to retell, particularly with a clever, active heroine. But this book pulls information technology off with a twist that kept me guessing (at yelling at the hero for part of the book).
One time once more, I wasn't disappointed, and I tin can't wait for the next book in this series!

I liked this serial at the beginning. I idea the stories were really well told and the fairy tale aspects meridian notch. I also really liked that all the stories happened on the same world with the kingdoms interacting with each other and with an overarching story arch. However I feel like the latest stories of the serial were simply non as good as the get-go few. It's difficult to pinpoint exactly what's wrong with them but I but feel like the quality of the writing isn't there anymore.I still like the romance (I'yard a sucker for romance) merely it feels so forced a lot of the time and I don't think I can continue with the serial unfortunately. I also accept this matter where I really hate information technology when characters are stupid just to accelerate the plot line. I couldn't believe how Isaia was acting.

In truth, this is a decent add-on but my least favorite of the series. I'thou struggling in how to rate this book. It had a unique and strong heroine. It had good female person friendships. I think my trouble was in some of the character development.First of all, the king was inconsistent. I didn't find him apparent in how he seemed to switch how he reacted to things. His graphic symbol felt a fiddling like a bait and switch. Perhaps it is because we are not in his viewpoint but from the outside he didn't make sense in his arc. Secondly, Isaia was a hard character to really get to know. His nature was to be very much in his own head and not to prove anything outwardly. The degree of his refusal to go what was obvious to anybody else for the length of time made him less relatable. It was too extreme. We do get modest snippets of what's going on within his caput but it wasn't plenty. Characters like this are tricky. In the Snowfall Queen Series we get a similar character in Farrin. However, that series involved two books and a series of brusque stories so I believe he makes more sense in his actions and existence able to relate to him. I think partly Isaia suffers from non having enough time in his perspective.
I remember ultimately this book felt like the characters got away from the base story tale. This made it experience like the characters wanted to veer differently from how they should fit into the tale and and then were shoehorned into their deportment/decisions. It wasn't bad by any stretch, just compared to the other books in this series was non quite as strong for me.
Side notation, the term "purity" is mentioned in regards to men kissing a princess while she is comatose and perchance diminishing her purity. That may have made sense for the setting since it seems to reverberate our victorian era thinking merely it drove me batty. I detest the term and that the princess would be considered less "pure" considering while she was asleep strangers kissed her. It drove me upwards the wall. Luckily this was a one time mentioned idea but i wish it had never been brought upward with the manner it relates to electric current ideas. After all, Elizabeth Smart almost didn't try to escape considering of the way purity culture affected her self worth.
I still enjoyed it yet. I'd give information technology a iii or 3.5 rating. Peradventure it's lower than I would normally rate this book if it was the but one I'd read by this author but knowing what she's capable of I give information technology that rating past comparison with the remainder of the books in the series.

I honestly struggled with the rating on this one considering while I really liked the concept and the story, there were ii pretty important characters who drove me COMPLETELY crazy.Isaia's false humility grated on my nerves at every moment, his abiding refrain of "I'm but not good enough for her" blah blah blah when he was actually just being completely selfish and unwilling to put himself out there. He kept acting similar it was all for Briar's sake, but it was actually all about him and his feelings, and I just kind of couldn't stand up him for most of the book. Notwithstanding he did somewhat redeem himself in the end when he actually admitted that he was a selfish jerk pretending to be selfless and heroic, then at to the lowest degree he recognized his faults and I could work with him going forrad.
Only Briar's grandad was simply admittedly obnoxious, and his explanation for his behavior at the end DID NOT Cut IT for me, like no, what y'all're saying makes no sense and you're actually merely a selfish one-time stuffed frog.
Even Briar, who I generally liked, notwithstanding frequently took actions that made no sense to me. For instance, she repeatedly is saddened or injure when people call her Rosalinda but... never says to her mom, "Hey, I would really prefer information technology if you would telephone call me Briar Rose, considering that would brand me experience much more than welcome and at dwelling" or anything along those lines?? Like no, instead she merely keeps beingness then noble and bearing the burden of people calling her by her formal name. There were multiple things similar that, where she views herself as being incredibly stiff for standing up nether persecution or whatsoever, when she actually was just very bad at communicating her feelings.
All that ranting... why does this still get 3* for me? Because despite characters who actually annoyed me a lot of the time, I notwithstanding liked the story. I liked the interpretation of the story, and when Briar wasn't bemoaning how horrible it was that people expected her to be polite, she was a cracking character. This is definitely towards the bottom of the listing of books in this series for me, simply information technology was still a fun and engaging read, even when I wanted to wring Isaia'southward little self-righteous cervix. Nonetheless recommended, although perchance non the all-time place to start in this series.
...moreEven in this book though, Briar gets four Ladies in Waiting who apparently just all decide they similar her and 1 another and we're just waiting for her to evidence up and then they can follow her meekly around? Three of them don't get names because they aren't distinguished enough as characters for Briar herself to remember their actual names.
Guiseppe'south a proficient male monarch, then a bad king who's going to ruin the country-this didn't make a lot of sense in the Angelique book, simply I thought it would've improve explained here and it actually wasn't...I got the final conflict after Briar was awake, but not really why Alesia was so concerned so quickly when Briar was asleep...and if concerned for the land then, than why not later?
Anyway, I like these books for the escapism, the romance, the familiarity of the tales. I don't expect a lot of them. I call up Shea did well with Briar and Isaia'southward relationship and I enjoyed learning about the Magic Knights and legendary weapons. I also think she did well with a fairytale in which the lead grapheme is comatose for much of the fourth dimension. That is difficult to write. If your main character is asleep they are not driving the plot forward.

i think out of all timeless fairy tales serial, this book is the most frustrating one and my least favorite one. mainly because Isaia was the most idiot, stupidest male grapheme i've e'er read. when he refused to kiss Briar to wake her up was merely dragging the story a bit longer-.- very annoying and a waste of time to read.this volume got a lot of frustratingly shallow characters, like the male monarch, Briar's parents, Isaia, the magic knights and even at one point, Briar too! I'm so glad when Briar, while there was nothing so special near her except her 'peppery' spirit, finally realized she didn't have to exist the person everyone told her to be. Personally, i think Delanna was a more interesting female grapheme considering at least, there was something special about her that's credible, which was her skill in archery (I LOOOOOOVEEEEEEE archery so it might cloud my judgment, but this is my review, my rules).
but there was as well lots of characters that balance upward the annoying ones similar Firra, Donaigh, and Briar's ladies in waiting, they're the 1 who spiced things upward in this volume and fabricated information technology more than interesting. i remember One thousand.M. Shea demand to give them more respect, she didn't even give us the ladies' names while they besides played an important function in this book besides! RUDE!
i think the plot could be better if they simplify some things (like maybe Isaia could kiss Briar faster?!) instead of pointlessly drag things longer. to be honest, it was rather a minus point for this book.
that bad things aside, i still savor this volume, it was still fun and I tin can't wait to read the bigger picture and find out who is the 'mastermind' behind this darkness that caused such upheaval in the continent.

Actually enjoyed his bookThis was a lovely retelling of Sleeping Beauty as it showed a different side to Briar Rose, in the fact that all she wanted in life was an like shooting fish in a barrel and carefree ride and instead she finds out she's the hidden princess that is set to prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and slumber for eternity and tell her true beloved kisses her. The not bad thing about this is that Rose already know who true dear was (Isaiah) but didn't know that he loved her in return but due to his Duty as a Magic Knight he is set to protect her and not bear witness his feelings for her. The story shows how Briar rose has gone from land pumpkin to a royal princess Who has to change her ways co-ordinate to family unit and tradition to exist worthy of being queen. But due to her upbringing those of the Gentry believe she is not fit to exist queen merely equally Briar Rose continues to believe in herself she knows what is right and what is incorrect and will do what she can to save her people and practise right by them. Even if that means putting herself at take a chance so that others might recurve help and it does help when her true honey gets off his butt realises his love for her is true and that he is the one to awaken her from her slumber (which took him long enough).
I really enjoyed this volume and I'1000 glad I continued with this series every bit at times information technology has become difficult to keep going but I loved the whole story from beginning to end.
She is a proper princess of my center Briar Rose.

Sleeping Dazzler is another great fairy tale romance where the heroine is not some simple minded, mincing princess. Instead, she is a princess of strength and conviction, who does what she sees every bit necessary for herself and her kingdom. The romance in this particular story was a little defective in my opinion. The two main characters did not do much to help each other out, and while that was explained, I still felt that something was defective in this particular area.
Rose's struggles with coming to terms with her birth family felt very realistic, considering my personal experiences with adoption issues. Shea seems to have a practiced pulse on the issues that surround these types of cleaved families. I could read and feel the pain but besides the hope that went with this story and how being raised equally a commoner and feeling rejected by her family at offset impacted her actions. Maybe there could have been some additional action, but I'm not quite certain how or where.
All of that said, I thoroughly enjoyed this adjacent book. You do not demand to read the others in the serial to sympathize this one, though the lilliputian Easter eggs in information technology will make more sense to someone who has read the unabridged series. Go ahead and treat yourself to a nice fairytale romance if you bask that sort of thing.

Unlike that simpering miss, she returns to the castle before her birthday with a noesis of her destiny. What can a clever girl do to change her fate?

Sleeping Beauty With Spunk!I loved this take on Sleeping Beauty. Like the original story, Princess Rosalinda (Briar Rose) is cursed as an infant and raised in secret abroad from the castle. Unlike that simpering miss, she returns to the castle earlier her birthday with a noesis of her destiny. What can a clever daughter do to change her fate?
I loved Briar Rose's take charge attitude. She was clever, mettlesome, and non 1 to bow to the expectations of others. Sir Isaia was unfailingly loyal. The romance betwixt him and Briar is aching and sugariness. There was such a good cast of characters in this book: from sarcastic mages, and cool ladies in waiting, to cameo appearances from the Arcanian princes and the Swan Queen.
I tin can't wait for more from this serial (and I hope the Queen of Hearts gets her story told)!
If you bask fairytales or magic, yous have to read this series! Each book can exist read independently, just of form, you lot should just read them all!
Content: clean (some kissing, balmy violence)

I wish the author would take more time to develop her writing process. I would like to run into more depth in the secondary characters (or even the primaries). They are condign more and more monochromatic and function-driven (I'm looking at you, sir love interest, rex grandpa, ninja-in-waiting).Fans would be willing to wait a few more months for each release in order to encounter new life breathed into these stories; more like Beauty & the Beast, Cinderella & the Colonel, or Snow Queen had.
This story is sweet and enjoyable, and fits nicely in the overall arc. I likewise enjoyed Briar's more active function than Disney'south version. The all-time part of the volume was seeing Angelique fleshed out a bit more than in backstory. Other than that, everyone was a apartment puppet. Ex: they didn't do Isaia any favors making him flawless with his height character moment being overcoming his insecurity. Really? If that's his dragon, make it more of a dragon. If his forcefulness is serenity, show us new insights into what lovely, steady, trustworthy strength looks similar! Shea can do better.

Adept Story, but characters make dumb decisions for the sake of the plotI similar the rewriting of Sleeping Beauty and the setting is dainty, only the dumb decisions the characters make, merely to keep the plot going, ruin the story. Briar is scared of the curse, simply she knows she loves Isaia and that he tin can interruption it, and then what does she do? Wasted every opportunity to tell him until information technology's well-nigh too late and all she can practice is tell him in a rush that he can suspension it. I get being embarrassed and she'southward already been rejected past him once, simply the alternative is sleeping forever. That seems an easy selection. And Isaia. Not only is he dumb, he's arrogant. She literally tells him he can interruption the curse, but he doesn't think she knows her own feelings. And even though he knows the kingdom is in danger, he waits a Year before he wakes her, because he doesn't feel worthy. It's completely unrealistic. He's supposed to be really honorable, but that seems selfish.
